Terms & Conditions
Please read all information below before placing an order. By completing a purchase you confirm that you have read, understood and accept these terms.
General
- Prices are in NZD. We ship within New Zealand only.
- Young Wild Flower is a small, independent cut-flower business based in Marlborough, NZ.
- I am the sole grower, harvester and divider so all plants have consistent care and quality control.
- All tubers are grown from our own stock and depending on the variety, that stock has been grown here from one to four seasons.
- Signing in with your account details saved, or using Shop Pay, can help you check out quickly. Tubers are not secure in your cart until payment has been received.
What to expect
- Size and shape vary by variety and don't indicate plant quality. Even a small tuber can grow into a strong plant.
- Most orders contain a single tuber; some may include a small clump.
- Every tuber is inspected before dispatch to ensure it has a healthy eye. Some wrinkling or texture is normal and won't affect growth. We only sell tubers we would be happy to receive ourselves.
Health & Hygiene
- Throughout each season, tools are sanitised between plants when harvesting and between clumps during digging and dividing.
- Every tuber is inspected at planting, lifting, dividing and dispatch.
- Cut ends are dipped in cinnamon to help prevent rot and infection.
When Your Order Arrives
- Open and check your tubers promptly. Some natural shrivelling during storage is normal.
- Keep tubers unplanted, cool and dry, and away from direct sunlight until planting. Want a headstart, or if there is a longer wait until planting, pot them up into a bark-based potting mix. Dahlias are sensitive to herbicide residue in composts and potting mixes, so it pays to be mindful of what you are using.
- If a shoot breaks off in transit, don't worry. Another will typically grow in its place. This can actually be a fantastic way to encourage more shoots to come through.
- Unsure about a tuber? Email us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and a clear photo or video.
Ordering & Dispatch
- Tubers are sold seasonally, often ahead of the dispatch window. Dispatch begins the week following our launch sale.
- Items are only secured once payment has been accepted. Placing an item in your cart does not reserve it.
- Dahlias can divide or store unpredictably, so occasionally a variety yields fewer tubers than expected. If we can't fulfil part of your order, we'll contact you to offer a refund for that item or a substitute variety of your choosing.
- We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order at our discretion. Where we do, you'll be refunded in full.
Shipping
- We do not offer combined shipping: each order ships separately and in the order received. Dispatch is estimated to start at the end of September.
- All orders are shipped via NZ Post, with tracking on every order.
- Shipping is charged at checkout based on a standard courier/packaging allowance. If your order turns out larger or heavier than that allowance covers, we'll email before dispatch to arrange the difference. Nothing is sent until you've confirmed, and if you'd rather not proceed, we'll refund that portion in full.
- On a rural delivery route? Select the rural option at checkout. These deliveries take a few extra days.
- Please make sure your delivery address is correct before checkout. We can't take responsibility for parcels sent to an incorrect address or left in a safe place at your instruction.
- If your parcel doesn't arrive or arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery, and we'll work with NZ Post to investigate and, where appropriate, lodge a claim. We'll keep you updated throughout the process.
Disease
- No grower can guarantee that stock is 100% disease-free, and viruses can be present without visible symptoms. We will never knowingly send a tuber showing signs of disease, and we take extensive precautions to protect the health of our stock.
- Disease can be introduced through soil, insects, tools or other types of plants during or after planting. We cannot accept responsibility for disease introduced or developing after delivery due to circumstances outside our control.
Growing Expectations
- Tubers are living plant material. Success is the grower's responsibility. There are many factors outside of our control, including storage, planting depth, soil, weather, pests and disease.
- We can't guarantee flowering, size, colour, form or performance in any particular conditions out of our control.
- There are amazing resources out there for dahlias. Please do your own research to work out what works best for your climate, soil type, drainage, sun exposure and frost risk.
Cancellations & Refunds
- If a tuber arrives defective, damaged or is not the variety ordered, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos/video so we can assess the issue and determine the appropriate remedy. Tuber must remain unplanted, in its original condition.
- Approved refunds are processed to your original payment method within 7 business days. Return postage is the purchaser's responsibility unless the error was ours.
- We do not offer refunds or replacements for change of mind or order errors. We also can't guarantee the growth or performance of a tuber due to the many factors outside our control.
Images and Photography
Our photos: whether taken by us or by a photographer we've commissioned and hold the rights to. All flowers are as true to the variety we have grown as possible. However, colour and form can vary slightly with the changing seasons, shelter, exposure, soil, and plant age, so please treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee. We hold the rights to all images used on our website. Please credit us if sharing for personal use on social media.
Our Commitment
Every tuber is grown with care at every stage. Spreading the joy of dahlias matters hugely to us. If you have any concerns, please be in touch.

Thank you for supporting our small family business.
