In 2021, I stepped back from full-time teaching to join the wonderful ride of motherhood. It was this new chapter that opened up the time and space for an unexpected passion to grow.

We'd just found a section to build our family home on when I came across a box of lucky-dip dahlia tubers sitting on the side of the road. The timing couldn't have been better, and from that little box grew my wild dream of a cut flower garden.

While I grow a range of carefully chosen cut flowers, over the years I've honed in on my passion for growing premium dahlias. I hold a special interest in dahlia varieties and the techniques that give them the longest possible vase life. With the right selection, harvest timing, conditioning and post-harvest care, dahlias truly earn their place as incredible, abundant cut flowers.

Our dahlias are enjoyed by local florists and flower lovers alike, and when time allows, I take the odd custom order which is another creative outlet I enjoy.

Between our busy family life, deep dives into all things cut flowers, hard slog squeezed into nap times, and plenty of trial and error, our once-empty section has become one of our favourite places.

That's what Young Wild Flower is all about, honouring our family, chasing a wild dream, and growing something beautiful together.
